Struggling to pay for his recent divorce, a British journalist hopelessly adrift in California is persuaded by his editor to spend a month living on the Internet, hunting for the American Dream. Cut off from the outside world for thirty days, he journeys through the depths of cyberspace in search of meaning.

Instead, he finds is a weirdness and depravity that strangely mirrors his own wild ride from London to Los Angeles. In hot pursuit of an irresistible, if somewhat psychotic, ex-girlfriend,  he travelled across the globe, conveniently ignoring such things as work permits, green cards and the fact that she was already engaged to someone else. All too soon, his dreams  of movies, perfect bodies and endless sunshine are replaced by the grim realities of being strip-searched at the County Jail and the bizarre world of 'anger management' classes.
